When you think of hypnosis, what comes to mind? Probably people running around like chickens and taking their clothes off in public! Happily, hypnotherapy is very different from stage hypnosis.
So what is hypnotherapy? It is an accredited therapeutic process, which uses hypnosis as a tool to help the client reach a relaxed, safe and comfortable place from which they are able to communicate with their subconscious mind. I can then help you to access core beliefs you are holding, which are standing in the way of your personal goals, dreams and ideal life style. Once these core beliefs are accessed and linked with the reactions of the senses (for example, shaking, butterflies in the belly), a whole new world opens up. Any core beliefs you are holding were likely to have been adopted when you were young, in the mind state that hypnosis allows, we can access your memories to discover how these unhelpful core beliefs first took root and how they developed and strengthened. Initially, the memories may come to you from last week or last month, but we will eventually regress back to childhood. The younger you are in the memory, the closer you are to understanding how that core belief was formed. That is when your subconscious mind decided that what was being experienced at the time was a fact, after that all other memories that substantiate that “fact” are stored as building blocks. This is where the “therapy” side comes in.
I use an eclectic mix of Psychotherapeutic Techniques to re-assess these beliefs for what they really are and release Negative Consciousness (For example, “I am not good enough”, “I am stupid”); Sensory Data (For example, feeling sick, shaking); and Emotional Reactions (For example, fear, sadness, depression). We will then re-build positive connections so that the very thing that was so fearful that it was stopping you from living the life you desire, will actively encourage you to live the life you deserve. This can sound very daunting as it can be difficult to face things that we thought we had left behind. The payoff is that once it is dealt with it will no longer affect your life in a negative way. You will be able to love life and live with more direction, clarity and peace. Things will come to you more naturally and you won’t have to fight just to survive. Your relationships will improve and you will find that new, exciting people will come into your life. You may go places you have always wanted to go, be more successful at work, feel empowered and confident, have a stronger bond with your parents, partner and/ or children. Live with freedom - a process you have already started by reading this today.
I believe the best way to work is not within one theory or style, I believe it takes a combination of knowledge to adjust to individual needs and for each individual it is also necessary to adjust techniques and directions.
My priorities are:
That you reach your personal goals and that you reach them with certainty, not so they only function for a few months but so that they function forever;
That you feel safe and are able to be as open as possible. Resistance is a natural part of any therapy but the more relaxed and safe you feel the better the outcome for you.
What is the benefit of hypnotherapy over counselling? The benefits of adding the “hypnosis” part to the therapy is that it creates a state of mind within which we can work therapeutically and make permanent changes. It reaches parts that profoundly influence your way of being that other therapies cannot reach. Combine that with my holistic training and you have a recipe for success!
